Give Me Summer! Give Me Books!

give me summer give me books

School’s almost out which means it’s very close to being our favorite time of year – SUMMER! Barton Springs, sunscreen and good reads await us all. To encourage Austin’s young readers to devour books along with their snow cones, this year we’re once again happy to offer a free summer reading program for kids going into grades K-8.

How to get started: Come to BookPeople to pick up a summer reading bookmark for your age level. You are going to want to hang on to it because it’s also the form you’re going to use all summer to keep track of what you’ve read. The completed bookmark is what you’ll turn back in to us before school starts to claim your prize.

What you get to read: We have put together a great list of 6 recommended paperbacks per age group. You get to choose at least three of these recommended books and up to three books of your own choosing –for a total of 6 great books– to read over the summer. Check out the lists of selected titles over on our website.

How to complete the challenge: Just bring back your filled out bookmark to our Summer Reading Celebration on August 17! Once you turn in your bookmark you’ll get to collect your reward (a $5 BookPeople gift card) and proudly post your name on our wall of Summer Reading Stars. You’ll also get to learn about great books coming out this Fall and eat pizza!!! (If you can’t make it to a celebration, just turn in your bookmark to one of our booksellers by August 30th and you’ll receive your prize.)

NEW & EXCITING THIS YEAR: The school with the most participants in our Summer Reading Program will win a visit this fall from Summer Reading Sponsor MICHAEL FRY, author of The Odd Squad! (Please send an email to online@bookpeople.com with any questions.)
