Austin Events for the Literati – September

Each month I’ll be investigating events around town that might pique the interest of the book nerds, the literature obsessed, and those who enjoy stimulating entertainment and/or socializing. Not surprisingly, Austin has a number of things going on every month the Book People community would enjoy.

One Page Salon @ The Whip In

Tuesday, September 1st 7pm

The One Page Salon is a monthly event, created and hosted by local author (and all around funny man), Owen Egerton. Austin writers will entertain you by reading one page of a current work-in-progress. This month features Neal Pollack, Marc Savlov, Joleen Jernigan, Jason Myers and Tracey Zee! Like the One Page Salon Facebook page to find out who is featured each month!

The One Page Salon is every first Tuesday of the month at The Whip In at 7pm. Get there early to get a seat!

Frank Warren of PostSecret @ The Long Center

Thursday, September 10th 7:30pm in Dell Hall

Frank Warren, the found of The PostSecret Project, will be at The Long Center in Dell Hall sharing some extraordinary stories and secrets. The PostSecret Project is an ongoing community mail project in which people anonymously mail in their secrets on homemade post cards. A number of books have come out of this project, including: The World of PostSecret,  PostSecret: Extraordinary Confessions from Ordinary Lives, and A Lifetime of Secrets: A PostSecret Book, among others.

Tickets start at $29! Get yours now!

The Color Purple @ The Alamo Drafthouse S. Lamar

Saturday, September 19th 4pm

Alice Walker’s 1982 novel, The Color Purple, won both the National Book Award and the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. The film, directed by Steven Spielberg in 1985, was nominated for eleven Oscars (though it didn’t win any of them). Both the book and the film are beloved modern-day classics. If you haven’t seen the film, do yourself a favor and go to this screening.
